YOUR STORY
Grant is a chef and I was running a period guest house. I had clients looking for a chef and they had very complicated dietary needs. I used to work on superyachts and I know superyacht chefs can deal with almost any request. I asked if there were any chefs in the Highlands and Grant responded to me saying he could help. He only joined that website four days previously! When he came to cook for clients they had covid. He had to hand over the prepped food with instructions on how finish cooking the meals. He was interested in working on superyachts so I said ‘let’s have a meeting and I can tell you all about it’. We went next door to the church on the property and ended up chatting for four hours. He said ‘I’m hungry, shall we go out to eat’. We went out for dinner that night and he asked me out on the way home. We have been together ever since. Grant cooked for guests at Innes House and that is how he knew of the gem!
YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF INNES HOUSE
To stay at the house is so different to just looking around it. We had a great show around with Jayne and I remember wondering if I would ever find my own way around without getting lost! I particularly remember loving the piano room and the sitting room. Many of the bedrooms were so dreamy too. I remember knowing who would go in each bedroom based off how the rooms made me feel.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE INNES HOUSE?
We wanted our close family to all be able to stay at the property with us. Grant has a huge family so it worked out very well!
YOUR VISION FOR THE DAY
I genuinely couldn’t have asked for the wedding weekend to be ANY better! It was relaxed, elegant, fun, colourful. The marquee added a fantastic space and was so utterly gorgeous. Everything was perfect. It was like living in a wonderful dream.
THE WEDDING MORNING AT INNES HOUSE
We got ready in a bedroom which Royalty had stayed in in the past, which just made it feel so special! I had my gorgeous bridesmaids with me and we had some wonderful fruit platters and champagne. The mood was relaxed and fun, which everyone across the house felt, too. A calming and fun place to get ready.
THE CEREMONY
Our ceremony was in the East Ballroom downstairs. We chose this area as it was big enough to accommodate all our guests. Beautiful light and colours made for great photos. I loved the paintings in there, too.
THE OVERALL LOOK AND FEEL OF THE DAY
The flowers and bridesmaids dresses I chose seemed to completely co-ordinate with the bridesmaids dressing room! The photos of us getting ready look all the better with the backdrop of the room colours! The period colours throughout the house are timeless and I imagine would look good with any wedding colour palette.
A SPECIAL MOMENT
A moment I will never forget. It was the day after the wedding, not another soul was awake yet. I took the stairs down the kitchen, made myself a coffee, borrowed some shoes I found at the front door and walked out into the garden. I had the entire garden to myself. The birdsong was deafening! It was an incredible moment as I walked around and took in the smell of the plants in the dew and walked around to appreciate the old oak tree. A very special moment indeed.
YOUR FAVOURITE SPACE
My favourite place was the drawing room. The space, the setting, the colours, the light. All gave a sense of calm and inspiration.
LOOKING BACK
It feels like the most magical time that ever existed. Three days of being in a blissful bubble of all our most loved family and friends and not a thought of the outside world at all. It is a truly treasured memory for everyone who came. We now relive the weekend through watching our wedding video over and over!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO COUPLES LOOKING AT INNES HOUSE FOR THEIR OWN WEDDING?
Absolutely go for it.
And also, spend as much time at the house as you can and get caterers in. You’ll not want to lift a finger once you sink into the sofas!
